Simple Argument
It might mean, though, that JaMarcus Russell’s days of being handed playing time are over. From now on, he’s going to have to earn it by being the better quarterback, and that should have been the case a long, long time ago.
Because JaMarcus played so terribly, he will not be given the starting job in Oakland. This is a simple argument because the premise supports the conclusion.

When considering legalizing marijuana, there are many economic, health, and social issues we must analyze. One economic study will not be the basis of Canada’s public policy decisions (1), but Easton’s research does conclusively show that there are economic benefits in the legalization of marijuana (2). With governments scrambling to find new sources of revenue to pay for important social objectives such as health care and education expect to see the idea raised in Parliament sooner rather than later (3).
this is a weak convergent argument. It is linked because premise 1 and 2 tie into each other in order to prove the conclusion 3.
Divergent

On Monday, the team made it official that Sherm Lewis is going to take over play-calling from Coach Jim Zorn (1). After the Monday night game, the Redskins have a bye, the natural time to make an in-season coaching change (2). Two weeks ago, Lewis was calling bingo at a senior center — literally. Now he’s calling plays in the N.F.L(3).
This is a divergent argument because 1 supports 2, and 1 supports 3, but 2 does not support 3.

Senator Ben Nelson said he would support a procedural motion on Saturday to allow debate on healthcare reform to proceed, even though he is still unsure if he will back the final bill (1). The procedural motion requires 60 votes to pass in the 100-member Senate and Democrats have no margin of error — they control exactly 60 votes (2). If the Senate takes up the bill, the debate would begin on November 30, after next week’s U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, it would last at least three weeks, making it unlikely Obama can sign a final bill by the end of the year (3).
this is convergent because 1->2 and 2->3

An All-Star Game has been eagerly anticipated in Kansas City for more than 3 1/2 years (1). There was a catch, though. The awarding of the game was contingent upon the passage of a tax referendum on April 4, 2006, to finance an extensive renovation of Kauffman Stadium(2). he referendum, which put into motion the renovation of Kauffman Stadium and football’s adjacent Arrowhead Stadium, was approved by Jackson County, Mo., voters(3). The 2012 All-Star Game seems to be edging closer to a home in Kansas City (4).
This is serial because 1->2->3->4
